PUMPKIN COSTUME

You will need:
1 white standard size pillowcase
glitter paints in crystal, green, copper and moss
fabric dyes in apricot, brown, white, burnt umber, sunbright yellow, kelly green, avocado and black
paintbrushes - flat scrubbers #1 & #6 (for fabric)
disposable palette
thin sponges for painting
fabric glue
fabric sizing
super fine black marking pen
leaves - silk, green, 2 3/4 x 3 1/2 inches
heavy corrugated cardboard to fit inside pillow case
tracing paper, scissors, spray bottle, iron, press cloth


Instructions:
1. The Pumpkin costume pattern can be found above.
2. The Pumpkin costume picture can be found above.
3. Wash and dry the pillowcase and iron if necessary.
4. Refer to the "step 1" instructions on the pattern page and cut the neck opening out of the short folded end of the pillowcase, cutting through both layers of fabric.
5. To cut an armhole on each long folded edge of the pillowcase, begin at the short folded edge and cut a 7 inch slit down the side.
6. Turn all openings under 1/2 inch and fuse with fabric glue. Let dry thoroughly.
7. Fill the spray bottle with equal parts of fabric sizing and water. Add 1/4 to 1/2 of the bottle with apricot fabric dye and mix well.
8. Spray pillowcase evenly with mixture and let dry. Repeat if a darker color is desired.
9. Position painting pattern inside pillowcase and trace using a water soluble marker.
10. Basecoat centers of eyes, nose and top of mouth with black.
11. Paint outer areas of eyes, nose and the bottom of the mouth with sunbright yellow. Let dry.
12. Outline all areas with the super fine tip fabric marker.
13. Brush crystal glitter paint over the black areas and gold glitter paint over the yellow area.
14. Using white, add a small highlight to the upper right side of each eye and to the center of the nose. Add a larger highlight to the lower left side of each eye and to the left side of the mouth.
15. Dip chisel end of painting sponge into water, then into brown dye. Referring to the photograph, begin at the top edge to paint lines the length of the pillowcase.
16. Using the larger brush, add highlights of copper glitter paint randomly between brown lines.
17. Add veins using green glitter paint, applying directly from the bottle.
18. Paint silk leaves on both sides with kelly green and highlight front sides with avocado. Let dry.
19. Apply green glitter paint directly from bottle for veins. Refer to photo to position leaves.
20. Attach leaves to the pillowcase using green glitter paint to adhere. Let dry overnight.
21. Fill spray bottle with equal parts fabric sizing and water and lightly mist painted pillowcase.
22. Turn inside out and press using a warm iron and pressing cloth.
23. Do not wash for several days.
