Set the scene for a haunting Halloween with eerie webs and creepy spiders. No haunted house is complete without them! Only you will know how harmless they are, as crocheted thread
weaves the webs and painted globs of glue mold the eight-legged beasties. There are two different styles of webs - a full one and a web designed for a corner. Stiffen the full web flat or give it a
rounded dimension to drape over a lampshade. Hang the corner web next to the ceiling or in a window for that "at home" look. If you're planning a Halloween party, crochet and shape these spiderwebs to fit
every nook and cranny in your house. To complete your decorating, toss white sheets over all your furniture to add to the abandoned atmosphere. I guarantee your party will be a "scream"! Spider Instructions: 1. The Spiderweb Crochet picture can be found above. 2. To make the legs, cut four 3 inch pieces of wire. Twist all pieces together in the middle. Lay on wax paper covered gluing surface. 3. To make the body, make a small mound of hot glue over twisted center of legs as pictured here. Let cool and harden. Trim legs evenly. 4. Cut 1 yard of thread to match web and tie it around body with thread coming up between 2nd and 3rd legs on each side. Knot end to tail on top of body; tail should be directly above center of spider body. Make another mound of glue on under side of spider body and a small amount of glue on top to seal and hide thread knot. If needed, add more glue to smooth body surface. 5. Fan out legs, then paint body and legs black. Note: Do not paint hanging thread. Let dry. 6. Bend each leg in two places as shown here. 7. Tie spider to web with thread so it hangs at desired length. For the flat full web, pin center of web to plastic covered cardboard. Stretch and pin ends evenly in a circle. For the curved full web, use the inside of a corrugated box for your form. Pin the center to the bottom of the box then the edges up the sides. For the corner web, stretch and pin it in a quarter circle over plastic covered cardboard. When dry, unpin webs and brush away excess stiffener flakes with an old toothbrush. Tie on spider and hang web in a window or wall corner. |
