| You will need: 1/2 yard black felt 14 inch cardboard cake circle 1 sheet lightweight posterboard 1 1/2 yards of black gathered lace 3/4 inch wide 2 1/2 yards Halloween print ribbon 1 1/2 inch wide 6 black chenille bumps (pictured here) purple pom-pom 1 1/2 inch red pom-pom 1/4 inch small plastic pumpkin (1 1/2 inch) black and yellow acrylic paint small, round paintbrush white and charcoal pencil white sewing thread floral wire small amount of spanish moss hot glue gun scissors, tracing paper and sewing machine |

Instructions: 1. The Bewitching Bonnet picture can be found above. 2. Trace the 14 inch cardboard circle onto felt and cut out a brim. 3. Trace the hat crown pattern pieces right & left (join before cutting) and cut one from lightweight posterboard and one from felt. 4. Trace the spiderweb pattern onto tracing paper with the white charcoal pencil. 5. Turn the traced pattern charcoal-side down onto the 14 inch felt circle where the spider web is to be placed. See picture. 6. Transfer the pattern to the felt by rubbing the back with a pencil. Using a narrow zigzag stitch and white thread, stitch the lines of the web. 7. Hot glue the felt circle to the cardboard. 8. To make the hat crown, run a line of glue along straight edges of posterboard crown and bend into a cone. Cover the crown by gluing the felt crown over it. 9. Center and glue the crown to the hat brim with the seam at the 11 o'clock position as in the illustration. 10. Carefully indent point of crown to partially flatten it. 11. Glue Spanish moss around base of crown. 12.To make the spider, hot glue three bump chenille legs to each side of the 1 1/2 inch pom-pom. Bend 1/4 inch up on each leg for the foot. 13. Refer to the photo to paint two 1/4 inch diameter yellow eyes with black dots. Glue red pom-pom under eyes for a noose. glue the spider on the web. 14. Tie a multi-loop ribbon bow with streamers cut at an angle. Glue to hat brim with one streamer extending upward over seam on the crown. Glue pumpkin on bow. 15. Glue lace around outside edge of brim. 16. Twist a wire loop and hot glue to center top back for a hanger or wear it instead! |
