CROCHETED BUNNY


Crocheted Rabbit

MATERIALS:
1. 2 oz. white 4-ply worsted-weight yarn.
2. Size J crochet hook.
3. 3 oz. polyester stuffing.
4. 2-inch white pompons (made or purchased).
5. White felt for ears, pink felt for ear linings, blue and black felt for eyes and face.
6. 3/4-inch pompon for nose.
7. Yarn needle.
8. White craft glue.
9. White paint.
10. Small basket of flowers, carrots, etc. - (optional).
Note: Rabbits are worked in continuous rounds. Mark beginning of rounds.

Head:
Beginning at tip of nose, chain 2, 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Rnd 1: 2 sc in each sc - 12 sc. (Do not turn work.)
Rnd 2: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times - 18 sc.
Rnd 3-4: Work even.
Rnd 5: (Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times - 24 sc.
Rnd 6: (Sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 scin next sc) 6 times - 30 sc.
Work around even until piece measures 3 1/2 inches from beginning.
Decrease as follows: (Sc in each of next 2 sc, sc 2 tog) 8 times; (sc, in next sc, sc 2 tog) 9 times; sc 2 tog until opening is closed, stuffing firmly before opening is too small.

Body:
Beginning at neck, chain, 2, 6 se in 2nd ch from hook.
Rnd 1: 2 sc in ea sc 12 sc. (Do not turn.)
Rnd 2: Work even.
Rnd 3: (Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 4 times - 16 sc.
Rnd 4: Work even.
Rnd 5: (Sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 4 times - 20 sc.
Rnd 6: Work even.
Rnd 7: (Sc in each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 4 times - 24 sc.
Rnd 8: Work even.
Rnd 9: (Sc in each of next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 4 times - 28 sc.
Rnd 10-11: Work even.
Rnd 12: (Sc, in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times, sc in each of next 16 sc- (backside shaping).
Single crochet 4 rounds even.
Decrease as follows: (Sc in each of next 2 sc, sc 2 tog) 9 times; (sc in next sc, sc 2 tog) 9 times; sc 2 tog until closed, stuffing firmly before opening is too small - shape backside while stuffing.
With nose pointing forward, sew middle of bottom of head to top of neck - make sure backside is in the back.

Arms:
1. Chain 2, 7 sc in second ch from hook. Single crochet around until piece measures 2 1/2 inches.
2. Cut off leaving 12-inch piece of yarn.
3. Stuff arm fully, and sew open end shut.
4. Make second arm same way.
5. Sew arms to sides of rabbit about 2 inches below neck.

Legs:
1. Make two the same as arms, except they should measure 3 inches.
2. Sew one along each side of bottom of rabbit.

Tail:
1. Sew 2-inch white pompon firmly at bottom back of rabbit.

Ears:
1. Cut out ears from white felt and linings from pink felt.
2. Cover entire back of lining with craft glue and place on ear.
3. Let ears dry under a flat heavy object - they should be flat and fairly stiff when dry.
4. Using dotted line on pattern as a guide, sew each ear to back of rabbit's head, with pink forward.

Face:
1. Cut mouth piece out from black felt and glue into place with top of vertical line at tip of nose.
2. Glue-pink pompon to tip of nose.
3. Cut eye pieces from black felt and glue them onto blue felt; cut around, leaving a narrow rim of blue showing around the sides of and slightly above the nose. (Do not place eyes too high; animal -faces are not like people faces!)
4. Make eyelashes by cutting two pieces of felt, each 1/2 x 1/4 inch.
5. Make four cuts evenly spaced along long edge; fan out the lashes, and glue along outside bottom edges of eyes. Highlight eyes with a white dot of paint at each outside upper edge.
Note: If toy is for small child you may prefer to embroider features on face for safety.

Bonnet:
Materials:
1. 1 oz. variegated 4-ply yarn.
2. Size J crochet hook.
3. White yarn for edge trim.
4. 1 yard 5/8-inch ribbon.

Instructions:
Beginning at center back, chain 2, 6 sc in second ch from hook.
Rnd 1: 2 sc in ea sc - 12 sc.
Rnd 2: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times - 18 sc.
Rnd 3: (Sc in one each of next 2 sc,2 sc in next sc) 6 times - 24 sc.
Rnd 4: (Sc in one each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times - 30 sc.
Rnd 5: 1(Sc in one each of next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) 6 times - 36 sc.
Rnd 6: Ch 12, sc in 12th sc from start of round, sc in each of next 24 sc.
Rounds 7-9: Single crochet 36 st even (including chain).
At end of round 9, sc in each of next 20 sc, ch 4, turn. Triple crochet in each of next 28 sc. Ch 4, turn; 2 tr in each tr. End off ; attach white. (3 sc in next tr, slipstitch in next tr) to end. Weave in loose ends.
Thread ribbon through first row of triple crochet.
Place bonnet on rabbit's head, pulling ears up through slit in back of bonnet. Tie ribbon in bow under rabbit's chin.
Sew basket of flowers, carrots, jelly beans, etc. over rabbits right arm.
For safety's sake consider the child's age before adding basket of small items to rabbit.
