MRS. CLAUS' CLOTHES:
Pantaloons:
1. Sew center front seam only.
2. Narrowly hem bottom edge of leg
3. Stitch 1/2 inch lace to right side along hem.
4. Stitch 1/4 inch elastic, 1 inch from leg edge, on wrong side, stretching it as you sew.
5. Leg should be 5 inches around after elastic is attached.
6. Fold down top edge on fold line and stitch to make a casing.
7. Cut an 18 inch piece of 1/4 inch elastic and run through casing; tack ends.
8. Sew center back seam catching elastic.
9. Sew inseam of legs. Turn to right side and place on doll.
Dress & Slip:
1. Stitch shoulder seams (here and here) then stitch sleeves along armhole seam.
2. Sew 1/2 inch lace on edge of sleeves.
3. Gather 1 inch from edge of sleeve and 1/4 inch from neck edge.
4. Stitch side and underarm seams on each side with one continuous seam.
5. Press under back edges of bodice as indicated.
6. Cut one 8 1/2 x 45 inch piece each of red pindot and white fabric for skirt and slip.
7. Narrowly hem one 45 inch edge of red pindot.
8. Cut two 3 x 45 inch pieces of red pindot and two 2 1/2 x 45 inch pieces of white for ruffles.
9. Sew the ends of the red pieces together to make one long strip; repeat for the white pieces.
10. Narrowly hem one 45 inch edge of the red strip and sew 1/2 inch lace on the other edge.
11. Gather 1/2 inch from hemmed edge and sew to right side of hemmed skirt edge.
12. Hem white strip, gather, and sew to slip.
13. Turn slip to right side and topstitch close to ruffle, holding gathered edge of ruffle up.
14. Place red skirt on top of slip with top edges even and stitch together, being careful not to catch the gathering stitches.
15. Gather top edge to fit bodice.
16. Sew skirt/slip to bodice, overlapping bodice edges.
17. Stitch back seam of skirt and slip separately.
18. Turn dress and place on doll.
19. Pull up gathers around neck to fit and tack to doll.
20. Tack back bodice edges together.
21. Pull up gathers around sleeves to fit wrist.
Hair & Hat:
1. Tack fiberfill around face and neck edge on back of head.
2. Cut a 12 inch circle of white fabric for hat.
3. Stitch 1/2 inch lace around edge.
4. Gather 1/2 inch from lace around hat. Pull up gathers to fit head.
5. Lightly stuff hat with fiberfill and place on head.
6. Slipstitch hat to head along gathers.
7. Gather edge of 2 inch lace to fit around neck.
8. Place lace around neck with ends at back and tack in place.
9. Tie two bows with red ribbon and glue one at neck and one on center front of hat over lace.
Apron:
1. Narrowly hem raw edges of eyelet lace.
2. Gather top edge to 7 inches.
3. Cut a 1 1/2 x 45 inch piece of white fabric for the sash.
4. Center gathered edge of apron on one long edge of sash and stitch together; fold sash up to right side.
5. Turn opposite long edge and ends of sash under 1/4 inch.
6. Fold sash in half lengthwise with gathers of apron skirt sandwiched in between and topstitch close to edge.
See the step 21 illustration.
7. Place apron on doll and tie in a bow in back.
To Finish:
1. Thread tapestry needle with 1 yard of black rug yarn and stitch laces in doll shoes following the step 22 illustration.
2. Work from the toe upward; rethread needle to make cross stitches. Tie in a bow at top; trim and knot ends of yarn.
Basket:
1. Cut two skewers 5 1/2 inches long leaving the pointed ends.
2. Trim cut ends to fit holes in beads and glue beads to ends.
3. Place red, green, and white balls of yarn in basket and stick skewers through a ball.
