Puppet Twins to Knit

PUPPET TWINS

Materials:
1. Knitting worsted weight yarn, for each puppet: 1 oz each of navy and pink, small
amounts of medium blue and yellow
2. Felt scraps in blue, pink and red
3. Five 1/4'' buttons, 3 white and 2 blue
4. Knitting needles no. 5
5. Yarn needle
6. Glue
7. Scrap of eyelet

GAUGE: 5 sts = 1"; 7 rows = 1''

BOY PUPPET:
Front:
Starting at top of head with pink, cast on 10 sts. Work 2 rows even in stockinette st
(k 1 row, p 1 row).
Row 3: K across, inc 1 st at beginning and end of row - 12 sts.
Rows 4-6: Continuing in stockinette st, work even.
Row 7: Repeat row 3 - 14 sts.
Rows 8-17: Work even.
Row 18: Dec 1 st at beginning and end of row - 12 sts.
Rows 19 and 20: Work even.
Row 21: Repeat row 18 - 10 sts.
Row 22: Work even. Cut pink; join medium blue and cast on 12 sts for arm.
Row 23: With medium blue, work across 22 sts, cast on 12 sts for second arm - 34 sts.
Row 24: Work even across all 34 sts.
Rows 25-27: Work even.
Rows 28 and 29: Work across, dec 1 st at end of each row - 32 sts.
Rows 30-34: Dec 1 st at beginning and end of each row - 22 sts.
Rows 35-40: Work even.
Row 41: Inc 1 st at beg and end of row - 24 sts. Break off medium blue; join navy.
Rows 42-49; With navy, work even.
Row 50: Inc 1 st at beg and end of row - 26 sts. Work 15 rows even. Bind off.

Back:
Work same as front.

FINISHING:
Sew back and front tog wth matching yarn, leaving lower edge open.
Hand:
Make two. With pink, cast on 6 sts. Work 7 rows even in stockinette st.
Row 8: Dec 1 st at beg and end of row - 4 sts.
Row 9: Work 2 tog. twice. End off. Sew hand to arm, overlapping 1/2''.

Hair:
Cut yellow yarn into 20 7'' strands. With yellow, sew across center of all strands for part about 1 1/2'' long. Glue ends of strands to head. Trim sides.

Features:
From felt cut 2 small blue circles for eyes, 1 small pink circle for nose and 1 red crescent for mouth. Glue features to face. Sew 3 buttons to center front of medium blue section.

GIRL PUPPET:
Work same. as for boy puppet, using navy for dress.

Hair:
Cut yellow strands into 18 16" strands. Sew to head as for boy, but do not glue to head. Secure strands at side of head with a small stitch, then braid. Tie each braid with navy yarn bow. Wind yarn over finger 3 times to make a curl of hair. Sew 3 curls at front of part. Sew eyelet around neck.
