Materials:
1. Knitting worsted, 1 oz. main color (MC), small amounts of other colors
2. Crochet hook size E
3. Scraps of felt, black, white, beige
4. Polyester fiberfill for stuffing
5. Craft glue
6. Rust embroidery cotton for mouths
7. White paint
GAUGE: 5 sc = 1''
Body:
With MC (brown for dog, grey for bunny, gold for lion, burnt orange for tiger, yellow for leopard), ch 2. Work6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around.
Rnd 3: *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around-l8 sc. Work even for 1 rnd.
Rnd 5: Repeat rnd 3-27 sc. Work even for 15 rnds. For tiger, leopard and bunny, change to white.
Rnds 21 and 22: *S in next sc, work 2 sc tog, repeat from * around-l2 sc. Work 2 sc tog around. Stuff body; sew up opening.
Head:
With MC for lion, white for tiger, leopard and bunny, beige for dog, ch 2. Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. For tiger and leopard, change to MC.
Rnd 3: *Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around-16 sc. Work even for 2 rnds. For bunny and dog, change to MC.
Rnd 6: *S in next sc, 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around-24 sc. Work 4 rnds even.
Rnd 11: *Sc in 2 sc, work next 2 st tog, repeat from * around-18 sc.
Rnd 12: *Sc in next sc, work 2 sc tog, repeat from * around-12 sc. Repeat rnd 12. End off. Stuff head; sew up opening. Sew head to body.
Front Leg:
Make 2. With MC, ch 6. Sl st in first ch to form ring. Work even in 6 sc for 8 rnds (6 rnds for bunny). End off. Stuff. Sew back and front openings flat.
Back Leg:
Make 2. Work as for front leg for 4 rnds only.
Paw:
Make 4. With MC for tiger and lion, white for leopard and bunny, beige for dog, ch 2. Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Next rnd: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) 3 times. End off. Sew to front of leg. Cut white or beige felt in shape of paws.
Sew to bottom of paws stuffing with fiberfill.
Haunch:
Make 2. With MC, work as for body for 3 rnds. End off. Sew to side of body near back end, stuffing as you go. Sew back leg under haunch. Sew front legs close tog under front of body.
Tails:
For bunny, make a 1 1/2" white pompon; sew on. For tiger, lion and leopard, with MC, ch 4. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each remaining ch. Ch 1,turn. Work even on 3 sc until piece is same length as body, changing to white for leopard for last inch. Sew up side seam.
Add MC loops to end of lion's tail. Sew on tail. For dog, work tail only 2'' long.
Ears:
For
lion, tiger and
leopard, with MC, ch 3. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, sc in each ch on other side of starting ch-5 sc. Ch 1, turn. Sc in 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in 2 sc. End off. Sew to head, cupping slightly.
For
dog, ch 4. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 ch. Ch 1, turn each row. Work 2 rows even. Inc 1 sc on next row-4 sc. Work 4 rows even. Work 2 sc tog twice. End off. Sew starting ch of ear to head. For
bunny, ch 14. Sc in 2nd ch from hook
and in each ch across. Ch 1, sc in each ch on opposite side of starting ch. Ch 1, turn. Sc in each sc to tip, sc in ch at tip. ch 3; sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, sc in first sc on other side of ear. End off. Sew to head.
Finishing:
For eyes, cut 1/4'' black felt circles. Glue on. Paint a white dot on each eye for highlight. Work mouth in straight sts. Glue black felt nose over top of mouth, circles for dog and bunny, triangles for other animals. For leopard's spots, work 1 or 2 rnds of sc with black, sew on. For
tiger's stripes, embroider black straight sts of different lengths. For lion's mane, form MC loops over finger, sew to head in groups of 3 or 4 loops.
