Equipment: Paper for patterns Pencil Ruler Scissors Straight pins Sewing and embroidery needles Materials: Felt: Reddish brown, 16" x 25" for mother, 16" x 11" for each puppy; scrap of pink for mother's tongue; scrap of beige for collar Matching sewing thread Black embroidery floss Small black shank buttons for eyes and nose Batting for stuffing Instructions: 1. Enlarge pattern by copying on paper ruled in 1" squares for mother and on 1/2" squares for puppy. 2. For each dog, from reddish-brown felt, cut two main bodies, two stomach gussets (cut along dot-dash line), four foot pads, one head gusset, and two ears. 3. From pink felt, cut tongue for mother. 4. For mother's collar, cut 1/2" x 6 1/2" piece of beige felt. 5. Follow the same instructions for all dogs. 6. With close whipstitch, sew pieces together with wrong sides facing except stomach gussets which are whipped together with right sides facing. 7. Pin and whip head gusset between the two bodies from A to B. 8. With right sides facing, pin and whip the two stomach gussets together from C to D. 9. Pin stomach gusset in place matching letters C to D on each body. 10. Whip bodies together working from C around head to A and from D up around tail and on back to E. 11. Whip each half of stomach gusset to bodies across bottom and around each leg, leaving feet open at bottom between F and G. 12. Whip the foot pads to the openings of the feet. 13. Embroider mouth in black outline stitch and nose in satin stitch. 14. Sew on buttons for eyes and nose at X's. 15. Stuff dogs fully with batting. 16. Whip back opening closed (between B and E). 17. Whip ears in place along head gusset seam. 18. Sew mother's tongue in place. 19. Place collar strip around mother's neck. Sew ends together. |
